1. What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical treatment that uses micro-dots of pigment to replicate natural hair follicles. At JOE SMP, our technique creates the look of a clean, full buzz-cut or restored density — customized for your head shape, hairline, and skin tone.
2. How long does SMP last?
SMP typically lasts 4–6 years before needing a touch-up. At JOE SMP, our pigments fade naturally and evenly, keeping your look crisp. A quick refresh session brings everything back to life.
3. Does SMP look real?
Yes — when done correctly. JOE SMP specializes in ultra-detailed follicle replication, meaning your results blend seamlessly with your natural hair. Most clients say even close friends can’t tell.
4. Is SMP painful?
Most clients describe it as a mild discomfort, similar to light tapping. We work gently, with breaks as needed, and tailor the session to your comfort level.
5. How many sessions do I need?
Most treatments require 2–3 sessions, spaced 7–10 days apart. This allows us to build layers, density, and a realistic finish.
6. How long does each SMP session take?
Depending on your treatment type, sessions take 2–4 hours. Hairline rebuilds may be shorter; full scalps may take longer. You’ll always know your exact timeline before we begin.
7. Is SMP good for thinning hair?
Absolutely. SMP is one of the best solutions for adding density and reducing scalp shine. We apply pigment between existing hairs to make your hair look fuller and thicker instantly.
8. Can SMP treat complete baldness?
Yes. SMP is perfect for full hairline reconstruction and creating a clean buzz-cut look. We design every hairline to match your facial structure and personal style.
9. Is SMP safe?
Yes — when performed by trained specialists. JOE SMP uses medical-grade pigments, sterile tools, and industry-leading techniques for a safe and clean experience.
10. What is the downtime after SMP?
There is no real downtime. You can return to work the same day. Just avoid sweating, shaving, and washing the scalp for a few days (we give you a full aftercare guide).
11. Will SMP damage my existing hair?
No. SMP is non-invasive and does not affect hair growth. Many clients even continue treatments like Minoxidil or PRP after SMP.
12. Can SMP be removed or corrected?
Yes. SMP can be lightened or removed with laser if needed. JOE SMP also specializes in correcting old or poorly done SMP from other clinics.
13. How do I choose the right hairline?
We design it with you, using facial symmetry, age-appropriate styles, and real sample mockups so you can visualize your new look before we start.
14. Is SMP noticeable up close?
No — when done professionally. Our impressions are tiny, soft, and natural, blending into your skin for a seamless finish.
15. How much does SMP cost?
Pricing depends on the area treated (balding, density, scars, alopecia, etc.). We offer free consultations to give accurate quotes based on coverage and goals.
16. Does SMP work on scars (FUT/FUE)?
Yes. SMP is excellent for blending hair transplant scars, including strip scars and dotted FUE scars. Results look natural and last years.
17. Is SMP good for alopecia?
Yes — SMP is a leading solution for Alopecia Areata, Alopecia Totalis, and Alopecia Universalis. We customize your plan based on pattern and coverage.
18. What if I sweat or work out often?
No problem. After initial healing (4–5 days), SMP is fully sweat-proof and workout-friendly.
19. Can I shave my head after SMP?
Yes. Many clients choose a clean-shaven or buzz-cut look. We’ll guide you on proper shaving tools and timing.
20. Do you offer free consultations?
Yes — JOE SMP offers free in-person and virtual consultations so clients can understand their options, hairline design, pricing, and expected results.
